ABOUT

What is
art therapy

As a form of psychotherapy, art therapy uses creative media to explore emotions, develop self-awareness, cope with stress, boost self-esteem, and work on social skills. People who use art therapy do not need to have any experience in art making.

Art therapists work with children, young people, adults and the elderly. It can be provided in groups or individually, depending on a persons needs. Individuals may have a wide range of difficulties or diagnoses

Healing Powers of Art

Making art in a trusting, safe and supportive environment makes long-lasting and sustainable change possible.

Throughout history and across cultures, engaging with the arts when facing challenges and adverse life experiences has been proven to enable personal growth and instil hope.

Non-verbal
communication

We find ways to help individuals to express themselves in their own way.

It is not primarily concerned with making aesthetic products or diagnostic assessments but to empower each person to affect change and allow personal growth.

The central aspect is the relationship between the Art Therapist, the individual and the image; this is what makes it different from other psychological therapies.

By using symbolic language and metaphors, complex emotional states can be communicated.

Art Therapy can be particularly effective when working with individuals who may lack the words to describe thoughts and feelings that worry them.
